# Writing Sample #12

#### Overview <a href="#writingsample-12-overview" id="writingsample-12-overview"></a>

As a new driver, you’ll need to refuel your car safely. By planning to refuel, you create the opportunity to select a retailer in a safe location and at a gas price of your choosing. Running out of gas creates an emergency and a road safety hazard you can easily avoid.

#### Task <a href="#writingsample-12-task" id="writingsample-12-task"></a>

1. Check your fuel gauge or the Miles Remaining indicator each time you drive your car.
2. Once you’ve decided where to buy gas, carefully navigate your car to an open gas pump. Your dashboard fuel light has an arrow indicating the location of the fuel tank door.
3. Position your car’s fuel tank door beside the pump. Turn off the engine, open the fuel tank door, and remove the fuel cap.
4. Activate the pump by inserting a credit or fuel rewards card. Follow the pump’s onscreen instructions.
5. Unleaded fuel is available in grades based on the octane level. Typical grades are Regular, Plus, and Ultra. Select the octane grade your car’s manufacturer requires or recommends. The recommended octane grade is often printed on the fuel door or cap.
6. Insert the pump’s nozzle into the car’s fuel tank and dispense the fuel. The pump handle automatically stops dispensing when the tank is full.
7. Return the nozzle to the pump, lock the fuel cap, and close the fuel door.
8. Review the pump’s screen for payment receipt instructions.
9. Carefully drive away from the pump and continue your life’s journey.
